Bribie Island Seaside Museum

The Seaside Museum is located in Bongaree on Bribie Island and has a beautiful outlook over the picturesque Pumicestone Passage. This contemporary museum explores the unique history of the region through a program of temporary exhibitions and semi-permanent displays.

You’ll be surprised at the island’s rich military history during the Second World War with remnants of naval fortifications, including Fort Bribie, still accessible today from Woorim beach. And discover the history of explorer Matthew Flinders and local man Bongaree who had an altercation over Flinders’ hat which apparently led to the naming of nearby Skirmish Point. Engaging storyboards, visual presentations and memorabilia guide visitors from the early days of British exploration through to Bribie’s laid-back seaside environs of today.

Kids are well catered for with free ‘Museum Discovery Docks’ offering interactive activities for youngsters in theme with any current exhibitions. A program of craft, painting and other fun activities is available at the museum, especially during the school holidays.

With free admission and extensive opening hours, it’s easy to add the Seaside Museum to your Bribie Bucket list on your next Bribie Break.
